You know what? If I was a good violin or sax player...I go for it. Why? Because I'd get a shed load of free publicity. I'd grab every opportunity going. I figure you can only effect changes from the inside of an organization, not as an outsider who just ends up locking horns with these people.

As for the waivers and questionnaires...of course they are going to tie you up tighter than a duck's @$$. Nobody wants to be involved with a "loose canon", especially if it's going to be on CBS!

If I were you I'd grab the opportunity of the publicity...then start shouting about the RIAA. Lol...by that time you'd have a million times bigger audience to yell to!

I love you Rodrica, (And you should KNOW that by now!)

...but I disagree with you strongly.

Foo Fighters are LOST to us.

Mr. Ghrol is a KITCHEN SLAVE of the RIAA (and you KNOW that!)

This PLOY is him and his RIAA enslaved band trying to get cake and eat it too.

------------

Damnit Rodrica, YOU are smarter than to fall for this kind of garbage.

please, STOP day-dreaming about someday getting a "major label contract"

you deserver much BETTER than that fate in Hell!

(I fuggin' KNOW because I am one of you fuggin' FANS!)

Of course I can see the negative side of what could be going on here  What I'm saying is, use it to your advantage!

BTW...I don't want a major label contract. I'm not an artist, I'm a songwriter. And I'm also a realist, not a dreamer. A publishing deal? Maybe. But it would only be active for a specific length of time and for a specific song (that's how bona fide publishing deals work) and would not affect my rights after that point or in relation to any of my other songs (I'd get a lawyer to make sure of that!).

As a songwriter I have to bear in mind that very few independent labels have the clout to find artists to cover my work. So I'm stuck with pitching to anyone who will listen. I don't give a flying :censored: who they are, so long as the contract suits me! :lmao:

I use the term realist for this reason: Look at the recent example where Mark Ellis of Glastonbury Radio discovered my music. I got a slot on the show among major signed artists. The station usually only play signed people. Working from the "inside" of the business Mark is able to get publicity for indie artists, far more than if he was someone on the "outside" of the industry just lobbying.

Similarly I now have some kind of contact with the station which can not only benefit me, but other indie artists. Can't be bad! In short, sometimes you have to play the game a little in order to win.

Lol, I don't fall for garbage, I used to work in the industry that invented BS - advertising! I use it for both my own and other indie artists' advantage. I spend a lot of my time trying to pass on information and to get more publicity for indie artists. This was just one of those occasions where I saw an opportunity and decided to let people know about it. Sure, there are bound to be other motives involved in any business deal. But I'm sure most indies aren't stupid enough not be able to weigh up the pros and cons. Nobody's forcing anyone to comply!

And lastly, if I could play violin I'd not only go for it, but I'd hire someone like Larry to check out the small print. No indie artist has to be ripped off. The outcome is entirely in their own hands. You can "use" the system or get swallowed up by it - that's up to the individual.

Jeez...next time I see an "in" for an indie artist I'm gonna keep my mouth shut or confine it to my own page! :shrugs: :tearhair:

 Shmoo...I still one of your fans too! :-))

It's actually a Mark Wood. It's a particular model he makes called the Stingray. I love it!

YAY!! Fantastic! It's great to hear that someone has grabbed this opportunity.

All independent artists should keep an eye on what's happening. I heard about this via a number of sources, including a friend who was going to enter.

A good reason to stop by and regularly check the DMusic news pages!!

Congrats Brian! Take every advantage of this opportunity. Despite it being an RIAA gig, it will boost your resume.

(Please be careful about what you sign!)

Guess now I'm gonna have to watch the Grammys this year.
